Shadows for a Face

As a new and ongoing series, I seek to capture individuals lost inside their own minds yet still found amongst the public. At times, there are defining moments where people find it necessary to detach themselves from the environment and mentally collapse into themselves.

Each individual's abstraction is unique, yet they still share various commonalities. No words needs to be spoken or tales to be told, yet their body language speaks volumes about their emotional state. In these moments, the general public remain spectators; turning a blind eye, and continuing about their daily lives. I strive to call attention to and battle this human but conditioned behavior. I hope to allow completely unassociated individuals to extend a helping hand to their brothers and sister in need.

This is not a series only showcasing the sad or disheartened. Simply put, reality isn't always so brutal. Each time the sun shines people contemplate the infinite possibilities the day can offer. I will expose individuals lost in creating art, skimming through an interesting read, and spending time with their loved ones. My hope is to show that the day-to-day commonalities are not so mundane after all.

A band without a name, but heavy as Hell.

Chris Hunter and Apples Bonifazi. West Seattle, WA, 2011

Last week Emily and I were invited by our friend Erin to check out a small house party featuring a a local band. Raw music and beer? It sounded like a great plan since I already knew both members through the same bike polo club.

However, I didn't know a key component, how do they sound?

Digging from my personal experience, both Chris and Apples are seasoned polo players who don't go around skipping to Lady Gaga or Shakira. Instead, they told 'em both to shut the f*ck up and listen to some HEAVY shit that's pretty bombtastic.

Even without a clever band name, this duo came out with a small set list jam packed with raw distortion that left everyone happy and wanting to hear more. Good luck to you guys and keep rockin' and rollin'.

Keith J. Haubrich, 2011, Seattle, WA

Keith, AKA Gandhi Jones, Jean-Pierre Beaujolais, Herr SchwanzKopf, and Flesh Muppet is a multiple-time Freestyle Moustache World Champion and a Renaissance Man in training. Outside his dynamic stache' he also DJs, models, drums, raises cats, plays chess, writes and performs poetry, rocks costumes and outfits, and hosts avant-garde vegetarian potluck parties on his rooftop deck in Seattle, WA.

At the time, I was walking out the corner store and my eyes catch someone sitting outside rocking a propelling beanie! I instantly recalled this strip of Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson...

When I met Kieth, he was selling various wares and goods on the sidewalk near Ghost Gallery on Capitol Hill.

Check out this gnarly video of the 2007 World Beard Moustache Championships, and get this.. he actually WON the freestyle category! Tip of the hat to you sir.
